The uncivilized way we Eat, the way we bond

The uncivilized way we Eat, the way we bond.

Ten people eating from the food parcel is not very familiar with many cultures.Very few, I’m aware of. are familiar with this kind of habit. Even among these familiar cultures it only happens occasionally. Daily is the weirdest it could get. In Sri Lanka, this is a common habit in schools and in workplaces.

unfortunately, I could not find an actual photo. But this is how it exactly looks like.

I have experiences of eating like that. In school, we, half of the class used to eat from the same lunch packet, more than that were willing but space problem! all the hands could not fit in one packet of rice. There were few who rejected eating in bunches. We did not bother them.  Many of them brought lunch packets but only ate one at a time. None washed their hands before eat. Sometimes not even after eat. And at times the owner of the lunch packet did not know what he had brought for lunch. Sometimes, it was a battlefield where nobody won, taught us the true color of war. on such days there was a cleaning job after the interval. The classroom was the lunch room itself.
This is how it exactly looks like.

Our school is the one of the most pioneer school in Sri Lanka. Currently ranked first. These habits did not debase us. This was practiced in the every school in the island. It made us more connected and more bonded. Among the students who have fought the battle of lunch packets. There were children’s of ministers, huge businessmen who lived their lives as princes and some from low-privileged parents who could barely manage to buy their books. but it did not matter to us. There were few cool kids and bullies but those hands were in the lunch packets were powerful enough to outrun them.
This happens daily all around the country, in schools, in workplaces. People like me who have practiced it in schools will continue to carry this legacy till grave no matter who they become. In medically, it is the most unhygienic way to eat. But, psychology, I believe it is the most healthy way to eat. It’s the way we eat, the way we bond.
